Merrivale Stone Circle
I took this panoramic photo of the Merrivale stone circle on Dartmoor after driving down to the moor on a glimmer of hope that the sky would clear for the day’s end. The sky didn’t really break but I had great fun trying to get some moody shots of the ancient stones.
I wanted to get a panoramic version of the stones so that I could include Cox Tor, the Staple Tors, Roos Tor and Great Mis Tor in the expanse beyond. I feel that it really gives a sense of space. I wish the ancient stone circle stood taller so that I could make it more imposing in the shot; if I had shot from a lower perspective I wouldn’t have been able to include the scenery beyond the moorland hill.
It is the first time that I have been able to drive so far as my old car was on its last legs. It has now finally given up the ghost and been replaced; meaning that I can now get out with my camera to do some landscape photography again! I went with my daughter and by the time we headed to the car for a flask of coffee the wind was howling across the moor putting an end to our photography, even with a tripod.
