Great Staple Tor on Dartmoor at Dusk
This is one of my favourite photos of Great Staple Tor on Dartmoor looking towards the South West. At full screen on my monitor the tones are really nice and I love the subtle colours.
Staple Tor on Dartmoor is a popular destination for visitors to the moor and especially photographers for several reasons. The first is that it is quite accessible assuming that you are happy and able to make the hike up the unforgiving slope. The second reason is that it is just so beautiful. I love the granite formations of the tors, and each have their own special characteristic and once there you can really appreciate the appeal. I love Great Staple Tor, despite it being almost the cliché tor of the moor to some photographers because of the amazing views to be had once you reach the summit and the amazing structures. The one in this photo is one of my favourites, with an almost head like figure looking over the moor to the south like a guardian of the moor.
As a photographer that has had a 2 year hiatus I think I am now finally getting fully into the swing of things again, Not just with my photography, but with my post processing too. For a while I think I was struggling to get beyond the most basic of edits, which weren’t doing my images the full justice that they deserve. I guess 2 years away from tools like Lightroom and Photoshop leave a need to get rid of the rust! You can view this photo even larger on my landscape photography website which is slowly being put together, with the hope of being more of a portfolio site eventually.
